So how much $$ to they save if they don't drive the vehicle that often.  Seriously, just leave the converter on and save the planet a bit.

Not just for farmers, every person running their own business pinches every penny.  I'm a contractor and pull around a utility trailer half the time, I went with a ram because it was cheaper and has a good reputation.  But I wasn't happy with the mileage it was getting unloaded, so I had to make some sacrifices and get different tires even thought the ones on it were perfectly good.  If I thought I could get a lot better mileage and get away with it I would cut out some of the emissions crap too, all those dollars going right out the tailpipe isn't fun.

I don't even own my own business and I pinch every penny.  I would love to see the new cummins V8 in the challenger some time down the line.  That way I would have great mileage and a fast car.  That's economical.  For now though I have to worry about making payments on everything I own.

Knowing is half the battle

The whole deal of making us all have catalytic converters was a payoff to begin with.  These things reduce emissions sure, but they also kill mileage, the amount of emissions given off per mile remained about the same according to many studies but the cars now had this extra expensive part that we all had to buy.  Don't try to polish a turd and sell it to me.
