I've found that taking it easy on the gas, like pretending that there's an egg between your foot and the gas pedal, has done me the most good in terms of savings.  I already get pretty good mileage so I feel sorry for you guys with your trucks.

Same here, the wrangler already gets a bit over 20 and I don't really go anywhere with it unless I'm gonna be offroad.  I drive an old rusted out corolla for the mpgs and getting around when I need to for most things.

What does your corolla get?  I get almost 30 on most fill ups, that's pretty good for a new car with all the safety features and emissions I think.  An early 90s car would have an advantage for sure in those areas I would think.

Same here, well - not the good mpg, but taking it easy on the throttle.  I baby this truck, the engine never goes over 2500 rpms.  It makes me sad to waste all the power the 5.7 has, but I can't keep it if I don't baby it...

I'm already doing a lot of these, guys at the track try to reduce weight and aerodynamic drag quit a bit to shave of seconds.

That makes sense, but don't you guys also supe up the engine with tons of power add ons that kill your mpgs?  Does it even out in the end?

It really depends on the mod.  Some of the mods we do like going to a 6.1L cam can kill mpg because you get more fuel flow.  But a lot of them reduce restrictions on the engine that cause mpg to go down.  Things like headers/exhaust/cai/gears help out a lot.  So far I'm up 2-3 mpg vs when I got the truck stock, I don't do these for the mpg, gas would have to be $10 for them to pay off in a decent amount of time.

What mods would you say are the best for getting mpgs?  I'd like to know if there are any that I could do that might pay for themselves in a year or two of driving.
