The parent company of Chrysler, Cerberus, is a privately owned investment firm. These guys know how to make money, and they know that they have the potential to make a lot of money with Chrysler (through an IPO after a few years of good profits). Instead of selling off the three main divisions of Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep they are reinvesting in the company. Cerberus also already owns the majority of GMAC, the financing arm of GM. Pairing... Many good points. Chrysler is going to regain it's rightful place as a quality carmaker.

You forgot that they keep coming out with sweet new vehicles. Our nitro is one of the best SUVs I've ridden in. Now if they would just stop making the pt cruiser...

I'd almost say that they have too many vehicles in their line up. They need to consolidate some of their line up (liberty and patriot are almost the same vehicle, patriot and compass compete too) to save money on production costs and beef up quality big time.

I agree, they need to cut down on the number of vehicles offered and concentrate on a performance version and a mileage version of each vehicle.

The number of vehicles isn't the problem. The number of engines/transmissions and interior options is the problem. They have too much variety and that leads to the defects in production. They should have 1 4 cylinder, 1 v6, and a few V8s with probably only 2 or 3 transmissions available. They could crank up quality and cut down on cost.

Chrysler as a company has a lot of different makes and models. But each auto line has an average number of vehicles. Jeep only has 7 vehicles in it's line up, how many does toyota have? There are about as many models in the toyota line up as there are in dodge or chrysler. We don't have too many models, it's our contract with the UAW, we're paying 77k people who are retired benefits when we only employ 49k people in the first place. Toyota doesn't have that overhead so they can reinvest that money into quality, the UAW is taking down the big 3.

Yeah but there are a few vehicles that compete with each other. The Durango and Aspen don't really compete since the Aspen is basically the luxury version of the durango but you don't need a Nitro and a grand cherokee. You also don't need a patriot and a compass or a patriot and a liberty. The commander also competes with the durango, and it looks like hell too. Jeep should get a big ass Hummer killer that seats 7 people easily, not with you're legs against your chest in the back seat.

I haven't heard that Ford was discontinuing the RWD police car. I've also seen a few impala's used a police vehicles. I'd bet that they'll continue to make those cars if they only get to sell them to the police, that's a big market. Though the charger will make a big impact because it looks a lot better than the others and is priced the same.

Aren't impala's front wheel drive? I don't know why but I do know that police only get rear wheel drive cars, maybe they're more manuveralbe on the streets or something.
