I do most of my own fluid changes and tire rotations.  I'm wondering how many people here do their own maintenance or take their vehicle someplace other than the dealer to keep it running.

The stealership doesn't have better techs for fluid changes and they charge a lot more.  Some things I would take to the dealership but not a simple fluid change.  I do those myself.

I got mine thrown in for 'free' for the first 40k miles.  I figure after that I'll do them myself.

I have them do all my maintenance.  I figure that it's easier to get $$ out of the dealership than joe's auto down the street if they screw something up when they do the maintenance.

Good point, though I've never had anything go wrong while doing my own fluid change.  I don't know of anyone that has either...

I have a friend that had a jiffylube forget to refill the oil in his engine after draining it.  He got about 10 miles before the engine seized up.  The hassle of getting the engine fixed/replaced at a dealer and making jiffylube pay for it was a problem.  Though I do all my own fluid changes, there isn't a place close to my house that would to a good enough job and I'm not going to forget something silly like that.
