I finally got around to writing an article up on the 09 Ram, look for it at www.moparregister.com/articles/2009Ram the discussion is already here Grin

Good write up, they just keep getting better and better.  BTW, I thought that the 4.7L was bumped in HP/torque this year, not next...

I noticed that too.  But I think the 4.7L is still the old one this year for the Rams, but the new one for the dak/durango/aspen/commander...

No, that's just nonsense.  They wouldn't make 2 versions of the 4.7.  That would cost too much $$ at the factory.  Just build the one and be done with it.

Maybe they had a bunch of the old 4.7L left over.  Like 1/2 of all 1500s sold have hemis in them, and the 4.7 would split the rest of the sales with the 3.7L.  I don't think they'd make two different engines either, but if they had a big surplus then I don't think there'd be an issue.

I thought that's what happened.  Like in 02 when the 1500 came out with the new body style but had the old 5.9L engine.  The hemi didn't make it in until 2003.

I actually found a couple of those 5.9L 02s.  Though they're similar in HP they seem to have a lot more get up and go.  Dunno if that's because of pcm control or not, but I did notice a big difference when I test drove them.

Those didn't have all the crazy torque control management that the new trucks have.  It's in place to make the transmission last longer.

Don't the programmer for our trucks get rid of most of that management?
