Finally, something that'll get better mileage in a Chrysler product.  I haven't heard anything about the new hybrid drivetrain for the durango/aspen either.  That was supposed to be available this fall.  I see that GM is using it in their Tahoe.  I hope that Chrysler thinks these diesel engines will be their response to the market wanting more fuel efficient SUVs/Trucks.  GM and Ford will both have diesel engines in their SUVs/Trucks as an option too, and people are going to want to have the option of getting a gasser with the same mileage as the diesel option.  /rant off

95, I don't think you'll be upset in a few years.  GM introduced the MDS a year after chrysler, so maybe they got to introduce the hybrid drivetrain before Chrysler.  Chrysler will put it out, there's too much pressure to get better mileage right now and they make more $$ on bigger vehicles.

x2, if chrysler can make bigger vehicles that make them more money they'll do anything that they can to sell those vehicles.  In the next few years that means that they need to get better mileage.

That's just it though, we don't need bigger vehicles.  Most of the time that I see a durango or excursion or truck it's just one person driving it to get groceries.  What ever happened to trucks being for farmers and people just drive cars around.  The big vehicles on the road are a hazard, they don't see cars and cars can't see around them.  And don't get me started on getting into accidents with those unmanuverable monstrocities.  Any person trying to be a decent human being by driving a fuel efficient car gets wiped out.

That's quite the negative outlook on this whole situation.  From what I've read Cummins was asked to make these engines almost 10 years ago by the DOE.  They didn't even know if chrysler would be their customer.  The DOE saw that the pattern was moving to larger vehicles for everyone to drive so they asked Cummins if they could make an engine that would provide the power it needed to while getting better mileage.  Looks to me like the result was a success.  I'll agree that many people driving around in their big vehicles don't need them.  But that's the great thing about the US, we're free to chose to drive what we want to.

The day you start making my car payment is the day you can tell me what kind of vehicle to drive, that's how the saying goes isn't it?
