        Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
        The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
        I know of no reason
        Why Gunpowder Treason
        Should ever be forgot.
        Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
        To blow up King and Parliament.
        Three-score barrels of powder below
        To prove old England's overthrow;
        By God's providence he was catch'd
        With a dark lantern and burning match.
        Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
        Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

Just a reminder to all of us that we need to watch the government closely.  And also Guy Fawkes day is as good a reason as any to drink in excess.

George washington outlawed Guy Fawkes day when he became president.  He said that it could serve as a symbol that terrorism could happen at any time and the government could use it as an excuse to take freedoms from the populace.  Instead, he marked the 5th of November as the day we hold elections, the day that we hold our representatives responsible for what they do.

Interesting, I didn't know that.  I'm guessing not many people do know that bit of history.  What's that saying again?  Those who don't know history are bound to repeat it...

That just shows how worried our founding fathers were about someone coming into power with bad things in mind.

very worried, they didn't want to trade a tyrant across the ocean for one at home.

I suppose if you give enough time and add a lot of public apathy anything is possible.  Politicians these days get away with everything because the public cares more about american idol than anything.

Also, in honor of thanksgiving being a week away I believe that tonight is a good night to drink Wink
