I finally got around to hooking up the camper to this truck.  The camper was delivered a few months late because of worker problems at the factory.  The guy gave me a few thousand off though because I missed out on a couple camping trips.  I was expecting to pull the 5500lb camper, but I wasn't expecting to be able to pull it so well  Cool  The 4.7 has plenty of power for towing, I don't know why everyone doubts it.  The transmission didn't need to search for gears very often and the rpms stayed relatively close to what I run at unloaded.  Call me impressed with this truck, Dodge did good.

Good deal.  Is that camper 5500lbs unloaded?  That would put you right at your weight limit already, no chance to load it up.  What kind of worker problems did they have at the factory?

I think the 4.7 in the Ram has a limit of around 7k so he's good for a few things in the camper though.  Just make sure you have a brake controller installed, and also, where's the pics?

What do you get for mileage?  In a cummins you'd be at around 16 mpg with that camper Cool

7k in the 4.7?  Dang my towing limit is only 7300, but I don't plan on towing anything huge with this truck either.

You must have the 3.73 rear gears.  How hard is it to get that best moving?

7300 lbs is pretty puny for the Hemi.  You're truck must weigh a lot more than regular 1500s, also your gearing probably sucks...

Wow, if he can only tow 7300 then I'm pretty darn happy with the 6800 that my little 4.7 is rated for.  Would my rating go up too if I got different gears?

Yeah, I got the 3.73 gears.  I had the option of the 4.10s and went with 3.73s for mileage.  Now that I have them I read on all the boards that higher numerical gears in our newer trucks usually means better mileage.  Man I'm kicking myself for that, but at least it's an excuse to go get 4.56s put in.  Going from 4.10s to 4.56s wouldn't be worth the $$, but 3.73 to 4.56 is a big difference.

You won't regret the 4.56s.  Your mileage will go up (up to about 70) and your ability to pull whatever you need to goes up as well.

Technically yes, but don't ever go over what's listed on your door jam.  You can get expensive tickets if you get stopped and are over, and if you get into an accident you'd almost certainly be at fault because of your 'unsafe' driving.

I didn't know that.  So yer saying that if I overload my durango and some guy rear ends me I might be at fault?  Or is it not that retarded?  I suppose if I overload the D and the accident was in more of a grey area then I could be at fault, but then wouldn't the insurance companies have to bring in all sorts of expert witnesses and stuff to prove that it was the overloading that caused the accident and not poor driving?

It'll be night and day for you.  A friend of mine has the same set up as I do and went to 4.56 gears.  He can smoke both back tires and doesn't have the limited slip Grin

Do you guys know if I can get 4.56s for my D?  I'm not all that crazy about speed but if they help with mpgs and in the mud then I think I could justify the price.

4.56s are available for the dakota so I'd assume that the durango can get the same ones.
