You joke but the guy does make a point.  If we were all to get 18 mpg or more instead of the 14 that we currently get we would save a ton of gas.  Doing this with a semi truck is harder, but I think if the government puts the incentive out there it can happen.

Exactly, we've moved to a system of expensive shipping.  Trains aren't used as much anymore to ship much.  It's all on truck, and as long as heavy trucks aren't regulated for fuel mileage (and as long as they can keep passing the shipping cost on to the consumers) it won't ever get better.

I guess I didn't know that.  Makes sense though I suppose since we can't stand to wait for items to get to our houses.  Shipping via train or boat would be cheaper but slower.

That's right and I can't stand to wait for my crap so they need to get it there now now now.  Preferably by muscle car of course Grin

Now that I think about it we do have a lot of bike trails where train tracks used to be.  We shouldn't have abandoned the train system, so what if people have to wait longer - it would be cheaper and use less fuel.  I suppose though, I have to say that I don't like waiting for my stuff either.  So the convenience is nice, but the high gas prices are not.

Mods here I come.  I was going to wait until after the truck was out of warranty to do some mods but I think I'll step up the time table with this graph in mind.

Also, I hate high gas prices too.  They suck a lot.
