From allpar:

Automotive News reports Chrysler has begun a crash overhaul of the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger. The program, called “Project D,” is designed to correct problems with the new mid-size cars.

To help staff the Project D team Chrysler is bringing back some senior managers and other personnel who recently took early retirement packages. They will work on contract until Project D is complete sometime in 2008.

The Sebring and Avenger have achieved only limited success in one of the most hotly-contested segments of the passenger car market. Both have come under fire for inferior interiors that detract from the quality of the customer experience.

Project D will focus on interiors but insiders say that is not the end of changes planned for the Sebring and Avenger. Each of the cars will receive an early total makeover, including refreshed exterior styling.

Good, the one complaint I have for the caliber/avenger/seabring is the interior.  Hell I wouldn't have my charger if it was the sxt.  Chrysler has really dropped the ball on interiors recently.  Good to see the new guys giving it some thought.

x2, I was getting some service done on my truck a month ago and they had a high end avenger in the showroom.  After sitting in it for a bit I thought to myself, there's no way I'd pay 25k for this interior.  You can get a brand new truck for that much, yeah the interior isn't as nice - but you get a lot more vehicle.

Hopefully plastic will be used sparingly this time around.  It's pretty freakin sad when my 95 concord has a nicer interior than the new vehicles that chrysler is putting out.

You seem to be getting more agreeable all the time.  Diamler really screwed the customer with cheapest possible quick to market tons of models plan.  Cerberus seems to be doing it right.

The interior of the Ram is basically on par with the fords pre 08, I think interiors for chrysler are generally in line with other automakers as of like 4 years ago, diamler just didn't reup the effort as other automakers did.  Now we're playing catch up.

I'd say that's basically true.  My d is pretty nice inside, but the new for SUVs are 10x nicer.  Can't wait to see what the new dodge does.

The new Durango should only be a couple years behind the new ram, they'll be pretty similar so I expect a lot out of it.

I'm excited now after seeing the pics of the new ram interior.  That thing looks nice.

Looks like chrysler is going to benefit a lot from the new ownership.  Diamler would've just let the interiors sit and waste away while the sales numbers fall.  Change is a good thing this time.

I just watched the unveiling of the new ram online, the new guys are pretty good.  They're not funny when they try to be, but they're good.  I think the new ram is going to set a new bar for truck owners.

I would assume so, the caliber has the same interior as the avenger doesn't it?  They need to step it up in every vehicle.

The caliber is just a low end car though.  The avenger can get all the way up to 25-30k for the car.  If yer spending that much $$ on a car you want a nicer interior than you currently get.

I'd agree with that, anyone that's sat in the Yaris (15k toyota) or any other vehicle from the manufacturers that's around 15k you'd see that they all have the same craptastic finish.  You get what you pay for I guess.
