Chrysler Mexico Reports January Sales Increase

    * Sales up 8.6 per cent versus January, 2007 marking 8 consecutive months of growth
    * Jeep® brand vehicles continue to grow business in Mexico
    * Chrysler Mexico’s momentum continues in 2008 after 2007 sales and market share increases

Mexico City, Feb 12, 2008  -  Chrysler Mexico today reported January sales of 10,786 Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge brand vehicles, an increase of 8.6 percent versus January, 2007 when 9,933 units were sold. This marks the best January sales for Chrysler Mexico in the last six years and is the 8th consecutive month of sales growth for Chrysler Mexico. Chrysler finished 2007 with an increase of .1 percent, despite an overall down market in Mexico.

"The momentum continues into 2008 driven largely by the widespread acceptance of our newest SUVs and minivans,” said Eugene Heidemann, Director of Sales and After Sales – Chrysler Mexico. “We are also particularly pleased that the Jeep brand continues to grow in Mexico.”

January, 2008 Sales Highlights

In January, the Jeep brand increased a significant level, 71.4 percent, pushing overall Chrysler Mexico SUV sales up 22.8 percent. The increase in SUV sales was led by the expanded Jeep lineup, including the four-cylinder Compass and Patriot, and the six-cylinder Wrangler and Liberty.

With the recent launch of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country, overall Chrysler Mexico minivan sales increased 16.7 percent in January.

For 2008, Chrysler will bring to market the new Dodge Journey crossover (produced in Toluca), the Dodge Challenger and the new Dodge Ram.

Chrysler de Mexico, headquartered in Santa Fe, Mexico has 1,200 salaried employees and 5,000 hourly employees.

Seems like all over the world chrysler is selling more cars than ever before except here in the us.  Wonder why they keep losing market share here and gaining overseas.

I thought they've been selling to mexico for a few years now.  They build half of their trucks down in mexico so I think it'd be easier to just keep some down there and sell em.

They're just starting out overseas whereas every overseas automaker has been cutting into the american guys for decades now.  The more automakers in the world sell int he us the less market the us guys will have.
