http://www.egmcartech.com/2008/02/29/chryslers-jim-press-says-every-car-will-be-offered-as-a-hybrid/

Speaking to reporters in a talk sponsored by the Levin Institute, Chrysler’s Vice Chairman said that the every model will be offered as a hybrid. In a previous interview with The Detroit News, Press said that Chrysler “absolutely” expects to provide a hybrid or diesel variants of all their models.

Press said that every vehicle that Chrysler makes would be powered by a hybrid system. While Press did not offer a schedule for when this will take place, he did say that Chrysler will work hard to meet the government’s mandate to increase fuel economy by 40 percent by 2020. According to PopularMechanics Press’s statement was the first by an auto executive that talks of hybrid technology being implemented across-the board for all vehicles in a company lineup.

Chrysler last year announced a new engineering division called ENVI that will focus on designing and building electric and hybrid vehicles. Next year Chrysler will add the Aspen and Dodge Durango hybrids which are said to have a 40 percent increase in fuel-efficiency in the city and a 20 percent increase on the highway.

Press also said that the U.S. auto market is likely to remain weak into the first quarter of 2009 but Chrysler’s turnaround plan is progressing as planned.

Interesting, at least we'll have some more options in the future.  I'm hoping for a hybrid diesel that'll get 60+ mpg.

Good, anything that gets us off of foreign oil is ok in my book.  I'd like for us to not be at the mercy of some idiot day traders.

Hmm, a hybrid wrangler or a diesel wrangler?  Either way you have tons of torque on the bottom end, that's a win for me Grin

That's good, I want a diesel in my next truck and I don't need a heavy duty for my farm work.  A diesel in the 1500 would be wonderful.

Good news, I'm a hardcore dodge guy and a huge hater of gas prices.  I'd buy a hybrid in a heartbeat.

I think a lot of truck owners are hoping that.  And so far chrysler and gm are the only ones promising it.

GM will be too, the MDS system and the hybrid system are developed by both GM and chrysler.  So hopefully gas will be cheaper a few years from now with many of the vehicles we have on the road.

Great news, we may not convince everyone that they don't need the Giant SUVs but at least some of those SUVs (and other cars) will get better mileage.

MPGs are good with the high prices, but at what cost?  We could have 30 mpg trucks/suvs if we didnt need all the emissions crap on it.  the only way to get 35 average is to make the cars tiny with no balls.  Not Fun.
