You guys can go here to see my take on the high price of oil.  I know we're all getting killed by gas prices so some of you will disagree with some of what I'll say.  Be kind  Grin

Bullsh*t.  We need high oil like Paris Hilton needs more crack.  Sure the amount of reasarch into alternatives would dwindle if fuel was cheap again but we'd slowly make it there.

You've also seemed to ignore the fact that the fuel standards were raised for 2020 to 35 mpg up from 27.  We don't need high oil to get there, we were just regulated to it.

We can get to 35 and still be using oil.  Hell I bet we'd get there just by swapping out all the gas engines for diesel in the US.  35 isn't enough to get automakers to take a chance on something like an all electric car, but these high oil prices are.

the thing is, i'm not a hippy douchebag.  I just don't like buying fuel from people that support terrorists.  If we could produce all our oil domestically then I wouldn't have an issue, but we need to start using less of the stuff.  I like my V8, and I want cars out there that don't run on oil at all so that my V8 can survive.  The gas engines will be sold in tandem with electrics for many years because the electrics will keep gas prices down.  If we don't produce the electrics then the next time we have a hurricaine or opec decides they want more money we'll be paying through the nose again.  I hate the high prices, but we need them or we won't build the alternative fuel cars.

I'll agree that we need to start using less and less oil, but we don't need the high prices to push us there.  We'll get there when the market is ready for it, the market doesn't need to be pushed into it.

Oil just went up 11$ in one day.  I think this is a bubble dangerous to the traders that are in it.  Huge jumps like this remind me of the nasdaq in the days before it crashed.  Oil will too, but not as hard as the nasdaq.  I just hope that we're well on our way to alternative energy cars/trucks so that this kind of crap doesn't happen again.

I hope oil hits rock f'n bottom.  I just saw a pic of the saudi princes car, it's entire body is encrusted with diamonds.  Those guys aren't hurting for money, 10$ oil can't come soon enough.
