I was looking at the other thread with the graph in it about safety for passengers of each car in a crash and I was a little surprised to see the dakota/ram so dang high on the deadly to the people in the other car scale. These trucks are solid as hell though so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I looks like the Ram is salvagable while the hummer is a loss.

That's what I think every time I see a vehicle that is very capable offroad and is then blinged out so it's pretty much useless offroad. I don't mind if the offroad vehicle is a pavement queen, but don't take away the ability to go offroad, you might need to sometime.

At least they're bigger when they're on the pavement, they might not be capable offroad but they win in accidents.

The point isn't to win in an accident, if you want that kind of safety get a minivan. Why spend the extra 30k on a vehicle that you'll never use?

Well I for one would like to have the most mass of either vehicle in an accident. A minivan doesn't assure you of that, a big ass suv/truck does. The dodge suvs I feel are really safe as are their trucks, that's one of the main reasons I bought my D.

There's no doubt that trucks are safer that little cars, especially if you want to be the bigger party in the crash. But then you should go out and add some roadarmor and anything else you can to add weight to the vehicle for your safety. Minivans are really safe because they're a bigger vehicle and are built from the ground up with safety in mind. A truck isn't as safe as a minivan because it's built from the ground up with hauling/towing in mind.

That hummer did not fair well at all, but it looks like the passenger compartment is well intact. Looks like everyone came out of that accident relatively unhurt and that's what matters.

That was the first thing I thought of too. The hummer may be totalled but at least the cabin is intact, same for the dodge. head on collisions are never fun to look at and I can't imagine going through one.

Any emt will tell you that the vehicle that has more mass at the time of the accident is the safer one (winner). I don't mind all the people buying up big vehicles and using them for grocery getters, if that's what they want then more power to them. They're safer in an accident and they pay for that luxury, why hate on them for that?
