How the hemi are you?

« on: June 09, 2008 »

I'm just wondering what all of you guys are doing to compete with the price of gas at 4$ now.  I can tell you that I don't spend a ton of money on gas but I have had to cut back on my weekend drives a lot.  Maybe I'll get a bike for those but I can't do that all year round  Huh?

Luckily for me the biodiesel I buy is about 30 cents cheaper than regular diesel.  Plus my ctd gets better mpg than gassers do so I come out a bit ahead I think.  I don't have far to go so for now it's not that big a deal.

I'm driving a lot less and going to walmart a lot more.  I don't particularly like walmart, but they have the random household stuff as well as a grocery store there so I can double up on my trips.  I'm also eating out less and less.  It sucks but I have to do all this or I'll be in the hole every month.

I'm looking into mods for my truck.  I don't drive a lot but with gas prices the way they are it's tough.  So I look at the cheaper mods and see what kinds of mpg they would return, I'll probably do a few if they pay for themselves in a couple years.

I signed up for a card that has 5% back on gas purchases so that helps a bit.  I'm also driving slower and accelerating slower when I have to go out.  Not much I can do other than sell the truck and take a bath on trade.

I already get 31 mpg on the highway.  I just don't drive as often as I used to, no big deal.

My 4.56 gears add another 1.5 mpg for me until I get it up over 70 so that's a plus for me.  I already don't drive that much and the break in for the gears has put a small halt on my camping season so I'll be pulling the camper less often this year too.  I think like most people I'm just more consious about how much I drive.

I'm with crazycurt, I get almost 30 mpg on the highway and I put my foot in it as often as I can.  I don't mind the price of gas because I don't drive that often.

I've been looking for a card like that, not many out there and most have a small cap like $100 over 3 months of gas is all that counts.  Where did your card come from.

Luckily I'm able to rent out a few of my extra acres to my neighbor.  The cash I'm making from renting is paying for my gas every month this summer so far.  He's gonna make a killing too, he has 130 acres all corn and he's renting my extra 10 plus another 30 from another neighbor.

My wife and I put on a combined 18k miles per year.  Between the Ram and the Nitro we're not getting great mpgs, but so far it's only hit us for an extra 50-100$/month.  We're not feeling it quite yet like most of you guys are.

My truck is my baby.  I run it on the track and on the street when safe to do so.  I don't mind the extra 150$/month it costs since gas prices have been going up, it's worth it to drive what I like Cool

Running it on the street is just asking for huge tickets.  I wouldn't do it, I've only been hit for 100$ a month in gas so far.  It's making my beer budget smaller so that pisses me off but I can deal.  I think I might start brewing my own in a few months if the price doesn't subside a bit.

I've been balked into racing a couple times and didn't do it.  I probably would have won against both (it was a tahoe and an excursion) but it's not worth it.  As for what I'm doing with the high prices breathing down my neck, I just drive a bit less.  I accept a little inconvenience in my life now to use less gas.  It's not that big a deal, and I love my D, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world right now.

I always save it for the track.  I only get to the track a couple times a year, but that's enough for me.  I don't need to show to people that I'm the fastest off the line.  I do like knowing that I can move my car when I need to though, it's been helpful to get me out of different situations.
