On July 24 Daimler AG reported on its 19.9 percent share of Chrysler Holding LLC’s first quarter 2008 results under IFRS. Daimler AG's results for Chrysler Holding LLC include net losses of €65 million on a U.S. GAAP basis, of which a €55 million net loss is attributable to the automotive business of Chrysler LLC.

Since Daimler owns about 1/5 of Chrysler LLC, and Daimler lost 65 million euro or about 103 million US dollars we could pretty safely assume that Chrysler LLC lost 515 million in the first quarter.  This looks pretty bad, but Chrysler is already cutting more jobs to deal with some of this.  And when you compare this 515 million loss to Ford's 8.6 BILLION loss for the same quarter it's not so bad.  Since Chrysler is smaller they're probably able to turn the company around quicker than Ford or GM.

Ford posted an 8 billion dollar loss???  Wasn't chrysler bought for around 8 billion?  How long can ford survive posting losses like that?

Ford is a lot bigger than Chrysler, and although 8 billion is a lot they can survive.  I wouldn't want to repeat that quarter though.

Just goes to show how much bigger Ford is compared to chrysler.  Even though it's a smaller loss, a loss is a loss.  And when you compared total size of each company they're probably not far off from each other on the loss end.  Sales are down, things are looking bleak.  I hope there's still a chrysler around to warranty the next Ram I buy Sad

Ford is only 2 or 3 x bigger than chrysler and their loss is oner 10x that of chrysler.  GM just posted a loss of 15.5 billion and sales are down for every automaker.  It's not just the american guys taking a lot of heat right now, its everyone.

Sucks to be ford and GM then Grin  Isn't toyota and nissan and honda down a lot too?  I thought I saw that on the evening news.
