So yesterday I got pulled over by the sheriff to have him inform me that I'm missing my front plate.  I was surprised to say the least.  The plate and the whole front bracket is missing too, I just have the little square holes in the bumper that I assume the front bracket was attached to.  Do you think someone stole it???  I can't see it just falling off while I'm driving down the road...

When I saw the headline my first inclination was that someone took the plate quickly for the tab sticker.  With the right tools you can peel those off of plates and stick them to yours so it looks like you bought it.  But taking the whole bracket seems like a lot of work.  Maybe someone needed it because theirs broke but who knows.  I doubt the thing would just rattle off, if that's the case then dodge would have a lot of complaints from a lot of people.

You probably just scraped it along a wall or something when you parked/backed out.  The front plate on most of my jeeps has been taken off by a rock at some point or another Grin

I lost the front bracket off of my last car.  But it happened in the parking lot of a target.  I think someone might have stolen it but I don't know.  It was taken off fast, scratches all over the front.

There were some scratches on my front bumper, but nothing that went all the way through the chrome.  I got a new set of plates right away at the dmv, I was kind of surprised they just gave the plates to me right there but whatever.  Now I have a new set of letters/numbers to remember.  I was planning on buying the bracket that goes on the bumper on ebay to save some money but I figured I should get the plates on as soon as I can so I don't get a ticket from the 5-0.  So I went to a dealer and just bought it, that's 40$ for a piece of plastic and some screws.

Oh, and the directions that came with the bracket were about as bad as you could get.  They just said insert the brackets and then screw in the plate.  Awesome Grin

Well if you inserted the brackets and it worked then you can't complain Grin  You better believe that you get those plates right away, cops need to be able to put a code in and get vehicle info when they pull you over.  Not having the plate on is a danger to them.

I've been pulled over for that and I agree.  I didn't have the front bracket on my charger and the police officer kindly reminded me that it was necessary for my state.  If they can't ID the car then they get have to get back up just to make sure everything is on the up and up and keep the situation safe for everyone.

Yeah, best not to mess with the DMV or cops at all.  I still think someone just ripped it off, the things holding it on are just plastic so you could break them pretty fast and easy.  Hope that person gets caught doing something pretty stupid.

Yeah, when I take my front plate off I usually end up zip tieing it to the grill of the jeep.  That way it's not in the way of the trails and I can still drive down the road without fear of being pulled over.

Doesn't the plate scratch your grill when you tie it to the grill?  Couldn't you just put it in the front window or does that not work in your state?

Most grills I've seen are plastic so they wouldn't be bothered with it.  Plus a lot of them are some kind of honeycomb that's matte black already, a scratch would just look black still.

A metal plate rubbing on a plastic grill would certainly scratch it.  No good for the guys with chrome grills or grills painted to match.

No I take the plate and put it on some rubber stops and then zip it to the grill.  Even so, if the plate scratched the grill up a bit it wouldn't bother me.  You haven't really broken it in until you've got it scratched.

You need to use rubber stops behind the plate?  How long do you have it up there?

After the second time ripping it off I put it up on the grill permanently.  No sense in taking it off and reattaching and taking it off an reattaching it again and again.
