How the hemi are you?

« on: August 18, 2008 »

Out of curiosity I went to build one of each of the LX cars in the R/T trim to see what kinds of features and options were available for each car as well as see the difference in price.  Well when I went to build the 300 I had no clue as to which one to pick, I was greeted with this screen...

Jeebus that's a lot of options.  Maybe they should turn some of those packages into features options.

Yeah, I was thinking that as I went though the different models.  The walter p chrysler and the touring DUB edition should be packages.

I noticed that they recently added a 'chrome' model ram.  It basically just has a ton of chrome on it.  Things like that should be option groups, not entirely new models.  It's getting pretty damn ridiculous.

I just tried the same thing with the charger and it has the same stupid models.  Their used to be like 4 models for the charger and now it's got 7 or 8 just like the 300.  I read a study a few weeks ago that stats the best number of choices is 3-5, more than that and people get confused and frustrated.  That's why it takes so damn long at the vending machines.

LOL damn I was hoping you wouldn't notice that.  I agree the charger is just as bad as the 300 and I expect the challenger to have the same number.  It's not gonna help having so many models that's for sure.

Right now the challenger has only 3 model options.  That's perfect for me.  I know exactly where to get the v6/8 and if I want the srt it's labeled right there.  I suppose though the people that have to deal with this are dealerships so it's not that bad.  Dealerships order the cars and people buy them off the lot, that seems to be how it's worked for a long time and how it will work for a long time.

I noticed that the Ram got a new package added to the ST trim (SXT - a model for most other vehicles), but then they also added a chrome edition model.  I don't get why they can't just be consistent accross all their vehicles for models.  Then again, if the sxt was a model there would be 5 different models and that would be lame.
