I came across this on another mopar site.  The poster is a dealer that has seen the new charger/300:

Quote
The Charger they showed us was still in clay, but Giles said that he was trying to capture the look of the 69 Charger R/T. The car retained a lot of the current Chargers look, but the body lines had more edge the rear quarters were taller the hood looks like the current hood in use on the 08 Magnum and the body sides were concaved like the 69 Charger. The rear doors appeared to melt into the body, if we get Charger they showed us it will blow your socks off. The 300 doesn’t stray to far from the original design, again sharper edges and very refined. The big improvement is in the interiors, again if they stick to what we saw then you’ll be blown away. The Interiors were beautiful a lot of attention to detail. The Hornet looks like the prototype, kind of looks like a cross between the first Scion xb and the Honda Element.  The New Grand Cherokee looks like a Mercedes Benz Grand Cherokee, they dropped the boxy look the vehicle has soft rounded lines, again a lot to attention to detail.

So it sounds like the new charger will be a lot like the camaro, with some retro lines but a new face.  A way to capture the old but mold it with something that looks newer.  Dodge was lucky with the challenger, the old look is really good looking still today.

I guess they spent a lot of time redesigning the charger.  Sounds like it'll look retro instead of being retro like the challenger.  In 2010 dodge has 2 muscle cars back.  I wonder if the dart/cuda are going to get a ressurection.

If it still has 4 doors then it's not really a muscle car.  I understand that they need to keep it 4 doors though so they can continue to sell it to police, I just don't see why they keep trying to make it look like the original charger.  Maybe I'm wrong and they figured out how to make it look that much better, I hope that's the case.

Have faith.  Gilles did a great job with the Ram, and the new challenger looks awesome.  I can't wait to see what a retro styling charger will look like.  And they know how much people hate the 4 doors, they're going to make those rear doors as invisible as possible.

What is a Mercedes Benz Grand Cherokee?  Are you referring to the ML series?

I think you're right.  The current Grand Cherokee looks like this:

and the Mercedes looks like this:

I think he's saying that the new Grand Cherokee will look more like the mercedes.  The differences small but they're a big deal.  The new Grand Cherokee will have a uniform body construction (currently it's body on frame) so it'll be more like a cross over SUV.  I expect the new design to look like the benz is so that it'll appeal to more upscale buyers since it's up there in price already.

I dunno, those two look pretty similar to me.  I don't think most people will be able to appreciate the difference.

The differences are subtle but they are there.  Making it look more like a mercedes is a good idea.  Subconciously they'll see the mercedes there without the high price tag.

I saw a pontiac on the road the other day that i swore was a bmw.  It definately had the bmw lines and looked good to me, but it was badged as a pontiac.  The point is that if I wanted a bmw but couldn't afford it I would take a look at that pontiac.

I agree, I don't see much difference there.  No sense in making something that already exists, people won't go for the imitation.  Would they?

People always go for the imitation.  They just don't do it on purpose.  They look at the pontiac and think they like the look but don't know why.  Their brain is making the connection to the bmw without them knowing it.

But if you're driving the imitation wouldn't you be a poser?  Poser's are frowned upon in the car world.  I'd think that the similar body style would be a turn off because of that.

Good, I'd rather see the new Charger looking a lot like the old charger.  The challenger looks great especially since it looks like the old one, the new charger will too.

I don't even know why you guys are worried about the new charger when chrysler is going down the toilet.  How about we worry about american automakers ability to make good cheap fuel efficient cars and then worry about what the latest muscle car is going to look like.

We gotta concentrate on something to take our minds off of the lame duck company that we're all fans of.  When GM takes Chrysler over I hope they treat her well...
