I was just wondering if any of you have encountered this.  I went to the dealer on saturday to look at the SE challenger they had there (it was grey, and it looked good).  While I was walking around the lot I noticed that every vehicle they have there is unlocked with the key in the ignition.  Unless someone goes around every morning and unlocks them, and then locks them up at night I would think that it would be really easy to steal their cars.  Just go there at 3 in the morning and drive off with it.

Even during the day it seemed pretty theft prone, I was out there messing around with all the configurations you can in one of the minivans and not one salesman came up to me.

Maybe they're having such a hard time selling the cars that they hope people just leave with them Grin  They must have insurance on the vehicle if it's stolen so it's a win for them.

LOL that could be the case, but if the insurance company found out the cars were unlocked with the keys in them the dealer might have a hard time getting paid.  More likely that there was a big car event in town and they all had to get moved.

My guess would be a salesman is looking to unload a car to one of his friends for cheap.  Idiots will get caught of course.

That wouldn't surprise me.  To many dealers are stuck with trucks on their lots right now, no one is buying them even though gas is cheap (which is a good thing).

I don't think it's just trucks.  Every auto maker is having hard times.  They all need to buckle down for a hard couple of quarters coming up here.

That was my first thought too.  Salesman are not vetted all that well at dealerships so there's a good chance that you'll find a bad egg every now and then.

If that's the case then those guys should be put in jail for life.  I can't stand people that would steal from an employer.  They're biting the hand that feeds them and they don't even care.  It's a wonder that any employer is able to hire younger people these days...

Everyone is having a hard time selling cars these days.  I wouldn't put it past them to get a bit sloppy with chrysler (and their jobs) on the chopping block.  That said, I agree with everyone here that someone is probably hoping a few of these make their way off the lots and cash in on some insurance.

It's amazing that we get anything done these days with all the young people being as lazy as they are.  No one wants to work hard and make a lot of money doing it.

My guess is that they just moved all the cars from another location and have been really really lazy.  The salesman aren't making sales if they are out working the vehicles.

Yeah, unless you've been there multiple times you don't know that they leave the keys in with the cars unlocked all the time.  No need to jump to conclusions.

That's true, I didn't think of that.  I suppose the salesman could just as well be lazy as a theif.
